It seems that nursing and nurses aren’t always portrayed accurately on TV or in movies. Nurse training and education in the United States is conducted within university schools, but it wasn’t always so. Traditionally, in the times prior to Florence Nightingale, nursing was like many other vocational professions, an apprenticeship, often undertaken by religious orders such as convents. It was New Zealand that first regulated nurses nationally with the adoption of the Nurses Registration Act in 1901. North Carolina was the first state in the United State to pass a nursing license law in 1903.

It tells the story of Jackie Peyton played by Edie Falco, emergency room nurse at the All Saints’ Hospital in New York City, and how her days are spent juggling patients, doctors, fellow nurses and her own challenging personal life.
